From a Stalled Project to a Historic Achievement The Result of Konso People's Unity and Persistent Effort

Under the national plan of Ethiopia's Ministry of Education to construct 50 Model Secondary Schools across the country, Konso Zone was selected in 2023/24 as one of the first 16 locations to host a Model Secondary School.

However, the project failed to commence as scheduled, causing widespread concern and disappointment among the people of Konso. This frustration was further intensified by previous development projects allocated to the area that had not been implemented due to weak follow up, administrative shortcomings, and local biases.

Despite these challenges, the coordinated efforts of the Konso Zone Administration, representatives of the Konso people, Konso leaders serving in the South Ethiopia Regional State, the Konso Intellectual Association (KIA), and other stakeholders helped bring the project back on track.

Through continuous engagement, close monitoring, and collective advocacy, the project was successfully revived.

As a result, the foundation stone for the Model Secondary School was officially laid today in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Education, regional and zonal leaders, community representatives, partner institutions, and members of the public.

This marks a historic milestone for the people of Konso and signals the beginning of a new chapter of educational and socio economic development. More importantly, it demonstrates that when leaders, intellectuals, and the wider community work together with unity, coordination, and sustained commitment, meaningful development outcomes can be achieved.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all individuals and institutions who contributed to this achievement. Special thanks go to the leaders, stakeholders, and community members at all levels whose support, advocacy, and close follow up ensured the project's return to implementation.

As the project moves forward, continued monitoring and support will be essential to ensure that construction is completed with the required quality and within a reasonable timeframe, allowing the community to fully benefit from this important investment.

Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous, and transformed Konso.

Congratulations to all the people of Konso!
