The Konso Intellectuals Association (KIA) proudly extends its warm congratulations on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the historic Victory of Adwa.

The Victory of Adwa stands as the foundation of freedom for Ethiopians and a powerful symbol of dignity and identity for Black peoples around the world. On this occasion, KIA expresses its heartfelt joy and conveys its wishes of peace and congratulations to the heroic Konso community and to all the peoples of our country.

Adwa is not merely a chapter of our past, it is the solid foundation on which we stand today and the source of hope upon which we build our future. Our brave fathers overcame a modern, heavily armed invading force not through superior weaponry, but through the unbreakable strength of unity rooted in their shared identity. With limited arms, but guided by wisdom and unwavering love for their country, they forged a victory that astonished the world and reshaped history.

Today, we as intellectuals draw a deep and timely lesson from this great victory. The “Adwa” of our generation is poverty, and our greatest enemy is backwardness. We will not look across the seas for solutions. Instead, like the heroes of Adwa, we must set aside our differences, rise above hatred, division, and hostility, and stand together for national unity and our shared future. By generating ideas that uplift our people and our country, and by fully harnessing the immense potential and knowledge within us, we must work to realize our vision of a peaceful, transformed, and prosperous Konso community. The solution is in our hands, and the power lies in our minds.

The Konso Intellectuals Association (KIA) firmly believes that the most powerful weapon against generational poverty is knowledge. By uniting the spirit of our ancestors’ unity with the light of modern science and wisdom, and by transforming our natural resources and human potential into productive strength, KIA continues to work with determination toward lasting change. By integrating intellectual knowledge with the Konso community’s strong work ethic and rich cultural heritage, we proclaim a new “Development Adwa” one through which poverty will become a story of the past.
